Dialogue Intro
Willie Bester & WOLF WERDIGIER
We are honoured to open our 2025 calendar with Dialogue, a remarkable joint exhibition by Willie Bester (Cape Town) and Wolf Werdigier (Vienna). This thought-provoking collaboration represents a decade of artistic exchange and explores the dynamic interplay between Africa and Europe. The exhibition delves into four key themes:
1. The evolution of sculptures.
2. The development of friendship.
3. An African perspective on the Western world.
4. Love and Eros.
Willie Bester, one of South Africa’s iconic resistance artists, is known for his evocative works that challenge social and political norms. His partnership with Austrian artist Wolf Werdigier—a pioneer in interactive art, urban interventions, and painting—has forged a deeply meaningful artistic dialogue. Together, their works invite viewers to engage with themes of identity, heritage, and connection.
Wolf Werdigier brings a wealth of experience to this collaboration. Born in 1946, he studied architecture in Vienna and London and trained in painting and design under masters like Markus Lüpertz and Irina Nakhova. His career spans exhibitions in cities such as Vienna, New York, Venice, and Ramallah, alongside teaching engagements at Columbia University and the Pratt Institute. He is also the founder of the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts and Media and co-founder of the Produzentengalerie.Wien.
In addition to the opening, we invite you to join us for an Artist Talk on 15 February 2025, where Willie and Wolf will share insights into their creative journey and the inspirations behind Dialogue. This event promises to be an enriching exploration of their unique artistic relationship.
We look forward to welcoming you to these events and thank you for your continued support of Art.b. Together, we are shaping a vibrant, dynamic space for art and community.
