Marietjie, oil painting artist (4 times Vuleka finalist), illustrator and designer, has worked this past year for this solo exhibition. These oil paintings collectively tell the story of her life—from the innocence and wonder of childhood, through the pivotal moments, places, and events that have shaped who she is today.
This body of work is a deeply personal visual memoir that invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys, memory, and identity. Titled Brushstrokes of Memory, this exhibition features a selection of 80 oil paintings that highlight significant milestones, emotional landscapes, and the beauty of everyday moments. Each piece functions not only as a snapshot in time but also as an emotional archive, offering viewers both a window into her personal world and a mirror for their own experiences.
The exhibition is structured as a narrative journey, beginning with childhood scenes filled with curiosity and play, moving through adolescence, moments of joy and loss, travels to places that left an imprint on her soul, and culminating in a reflection on growth, resilience, and hope.
“Using oil as my primary medium allows me to explore depth, texture, and emotion with a richness that mirrors the complexity of memory. My palette shifts throughout the exhibition to reflect the emotional tone of each life chapter—warm, vibrant tones for joyous times; muted or darker hues for moments of challenge or contemplation.
